iPhone 3G: $199.99 to call 9-1-1
By: Michael Boucher
For those who woke up bright and early this morning, played hooky from work and stood in line for hours to get their hands on the new iPhone 3G, disappointment quickly set in. With the release of the first major upgrade to the iPhone stores are currently unable to activate the phones and customers are leaving with overpriced 9-1-1 dialers.
No word as of yet as to when these phones will be activated. You are still required to sign up for the 2-year commitment on AT&T when you buy your phone, it's just useless until things get sorted out. Unless of course you get mugged in the parking lot on your way back to work.
Even if service was to get restored now there is probably such a backlog of phones that need to be activated that it could take into next week. I guess good things do come to those who wait.
