Adobe Cocomo: Real-time Social Applications

One of the first Adobe Labs releases coming out of Adobe MAX 2008 is Cocomo "a Platform as a Service that allows Flex developers to easily add real-time social capabilities into their RIA (Rich Internet Applications)." This reminds me a lot of Macromedia's Flash Communication Server, which was subsequently broken out into Flash Media Server, Flash Data Services (LiveCycle/BlazeDS) and Flash Remoting.

Some of the applications that can be built using the Cocomo Platform are real-time collaboration applications, multi-player games and audio/video chat. This is pretty exciting because I'm in the process of building out a project management/CRM application and a lot of the features of Cocomo would fit in nicely.

Some of the features of Cocomo include:

  • VoIP Audio
  • Webcam Video
  • Chat
  • Multi-User Whiteboards
  • Real-Time File Sharing
  • User Management
  • Roles and Permissions
  • Robust Data Messaging

This is one of many items on my del.icio.us "TODO" list of technologies to play around with but with a list of features like that it's going straight to the top. I'll post my findings here once I get something up and running.

Check it out at http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/cocomo/
